Super Junior is a thirteen member boy group formed by S.M. Entertainment. The group debuted with TWINS (Knock Out) in 2005 as SuperJunior 05 – a 12 member group. Originally, S.M. planned to have generations of the boy group in order to keep members ‘young and fresh’. But with the addition of the 13th member – magnae Cho Kyuhyun – in May 2006, plans for the 2nd generation of Super Junior were dropped. Instead, the group dropped the suffix ’05’ to become Super Junior. Cho Kyuhyun debuted with Super Junior in their single ‘U’.

Super Junior is one of the most succesful boy groups to date. They are my ultimate obsession ;) Super Junior has personnality; as other idol groups tend to only stick to an image of they’re ‘supposed’ to be. In my opinion, certain members in Super Junior are some of the most talented idols in the Hallyu Wave.
They never fail to make me laugh with their crazy antics and glowing smiles. SM doesn’t exactly put the best attention onto this amazing group, but they make do without it. I can’t fail but to exaggerate on the fact that Super Junior has 13 members forever~ I, am a 13eliever, in Super Junior! <3

| Super Junior K.R.Y |

Super Junior K.R.Y. is the first official sub-group of Super Junior formed in November 2006, composed of Kyuhyun, Yesung, and Ryeowook. S.M. discovered that these three had estabilished a personal fanbase that was seperate from the others, and had similiar musical qualities. Basically, Kyuhyun, Ryeowook and Yesung are the three best vocals of Super Junior. The trio sings slow, R&B ballads that target a more mature audience. They often contribute to OST’s for various dramas. They are the only sub-group of Super Junior who haven’t released an official album.

| Super Junior-Trot |

Super Junior T is the second official sub-group of Super Junior. The group consists of Leeteuk (leader),  Heechul, Kang-in, Shindong, Sungmin, and Eunhyuk. They are the first idol group that focuses on trot music. During their career, they’ve only released one single before their haitus in 2008. The single “Rokuko” was Korea’s sixteenth best-selling record and the number one best-selling single of 2007, according to the Music Industry Association of Korea. In November 2008, the subgroup returned with a debut in the Japanese music industry, releasing the Japanese version of “Rokuko.”

| Super Junior-M | SJM |

Super Junior-Mandarin is the third official sub-group of Super Junior. The group consists of Hangeng (leader), Kyuhyun, Siwon, Donghae, Ryeowook, and two other chinese members: Henry & Zhou Mi. They debuted with a chinese remake of the Super Junior single ‘U’. The group’s first album was titled ‘Me’, or ‘迷’ in Chinese. ‘Me’ also featured other remakes of popular Super Junior songs. ‘Me’ debuted on Taiwan Music charts at #2, and after weeks of release, reached the number one spot in China’s Top In Music chart. In 2009, a year after the release of ‘Me’, SJM released their first mini-album called ‘Super Girl’. Music Videos from the album included Blue Tomorrow and Super Girl. The MV for Super Girl featured Jessica of SNSD. Super Girl became an asia-wide sucess while sweeping China off its feet. Super Junior M is currently on Hiatus due to leader Hangeng’s sudden departure from Super Junior.

 | Super Junior-Happy |

Super Junior-Happy consists of every previous member from Super Junior-T except Heechul, who is replaced by Yesung. Super Junior-Happy debuted on June 7, 2008, performing their first single, “Cooking? Cooking!” at the 2008 Dream Concert. On the day before their debut, the subgroup held their first sign fan meeting to celebrate the success of the sales of Cooking? Cooking!  Close to 10,000 copies were sold by the first week of release. According to the Music Industry Association of Korea, the EP sold 27,122 by the end of August and was ranked fifth in the monthly charts. Super Junior-Happy performed their second single, “Pajama Party” on August 3, 2008. “Pajama Party” promotions only lasted a month. Super Junior-Happy’s music style involves the common style of contemporary dance music and bubblegum pop.

——————————————-

Presently, there are only 10 active members of Super Junior. Kangin is on a leave of absence to serve his mandatory military service, Kibum is in further pursuit of his acting career, and Hangeng has an ongoing lawsuit with S.M. to terminate his contract. [Personally, I am a HUGE fan of Hangeng’s, and strongly objected to him leaving the group until i found out his story – how hard it was to stay with S.M. and Super Junior. I continue to support Hangeng and his new Solo Album! And I hope you will too. Hankyung HWAITING~] Super Junior’s 4th studio album ‘Bonamana’ is the first album in which only 10 members contributed to. Instead of 13 beautiful voices, we only hear 10; but nonetheless, it became a very successful album selling over 36,000 copies on its first day; another 70,000 in four more days; and eight more days after its release, total sales were beyond 100,000.

Here’s the MV for ‘Bonamana (Beauty)’, the title track from their 4th Studio Album:
